BOE Minutes

Meetings

Board of Education meetings are generally the third Thursday of each month and are open to the public. The meetings are held in the Hunter cafeteria. Additional meetings are scheduled as are needed and such meeting dates are posted on the school website and announcement boards in front of each school building. School district business is discussed in public meetings. However, state law provides for the use of executive (private) sessions on matters which may involve personnel and legal issues. All official BOE action is taken only in Board meetings, which are open to the public.

Executive Session

The BOE meets in Executive Session to discuss personnel matters, labor negotiations, and other matters that are confidential as defined by the Open Meeting Law of the State of New York. Executive sessions can only be held by resolution at a regularly scheduled and advertised open meeting. All executive sessions are closed to the public and no official action may be taken unless permitted by law. Executive sessions are scheduled to occur at the beginning of the meeting from 6:30-6:45 and then at the end of the regular meeting (only if a second session is necessary).

Participation in Meetings

The BOE welcomes comments, questions and concerns. The posted agenda provides an opportunity for residents to address the BOE on any topic during the public comment portion of the meeting. An individual board member has no more authority that any other voter in the district. It is only when acting as a body, that the Board has authority.

The Board welcomes public participation during the public comment period. When speaking at meetings, please state your name prior to addressing the BOE. If there are many residents who wish to speak, the BOE President may suggest that speakers limit remarks in order to give everyone an opportunity to express concerns. The Board may need to limit the time for public participation in order to give adequate time and attention to regular business meeting agenda items.

Community residents having questions regarding specific aspects of the schools’ programs may obtain the best information by talking directly with a student’s teacher or a Building Principal. Information on a District-wide program or a special concern may be provided by contacting the Superintendent.

Comments also may be made in writing to the Board of Education. Correspondence may be addressed to: Hunter-Tannersville Central School District Board of Education, 6094 Main Street, Tannersville, NY 12485
